The story weaves between Lancaster, London and the Lake District as the characters wrestle with the morality and dangers associated with the Project. Miranda's sister receives a terse note that alerts her to some strange circumstances associated with Miranda's death. Duncan's colleague, Simon, who worked with Miranda for a short time and would appear to be implicated in her death. The 'final act' takes place at Long Meg stone circle on the day of the winter solstice.
